Tawheed Center of Detroit School Introduction
School Overview
In the light of the school mission, Tawheed Center of Detroit School’s curriculum and its approach to teaching aims for well-rounded practicing and contributing members of the Muslim Ummah.
Our guiding principles are driven by the Book of Allah and authentic hadiths. Tawheed Center of Detroit aims to achieve its mission through the whole child approach. The whole child approach calls to address the close association between a child’s spiritual, social, emotional, and cultural development and experiences as highlighted by the Michigan Department of Education (MDE); “a unique learner comprised of interacting dimensions such as cognitive, physical, behavioral, social and emotional.”
Trimester 1- Spiritual and Moral Development: Trimester 1 focuses on learning about The Rabb, and His Love and Care towards His creation, thereupon, students are guided to look within and learn to identify their emotions and recognize their strengths and weaknesses. Students are nurtured to develop self-confidence and self-efficacy. They are given time and opportunities to reflect over who they are and how they would work on themselves to mold their personality based on the Quran and Sunnah. Through the Quran, authentic Ahaadith and explanations of Morning and Evening Adhkaar; students are guided to live Islam. Therefore, Tawheed Center school (TCS) is firmly committed to academic excellence that begins with instilling strong spiritual and moral values and mannerisms.
Trimester 2-Physical and Interpersonal Development: In trimester 2 (Units 3 & 4), the emphasis is on finding balance between personal and interpersonal aspects. Students learn to respect their shared space and acknowledge their own and others’ rights. They also recognize that their physical abilities of seeing, hearing and understanding and accepting the truth are Allah’s blessings and windows to the heart. They are guided to recognize that what goes through these windows will affect their heart, hence their Imaan. Therefore, the goal is to inculcate in them the habit of constantly watching their choices in all aspects of their lives. Students develop the ability to successfully regulate their emotions, thoughts, and behaviors in different situations — effectively managing stress, controlling impulses, and motivating self and others.
Trimester 3-Intellectual, Social, and Cultural Development: Trimester 3 (units 5 & 6) aims to ingrain habits of continuously working to better one’s-self and sharpening the saw. We believe in a strong collaboration between parents, teachers, students, and an administrator. The A’qeedah and character-building program at TCS provides a comprehensive curriculum with its roots in the correct understanding of Qur’an and the authentic Sunnah of the Messenger (Sallalahu Alaiha Wasallam) as was understood and practiced by the pious predecessors of this Umma. Furthermore, the whole child approach gives children the framework they need to become well-rounded, healthy individuals. The academic curriculum is in compliance with the requirements of the Common Core Standards and Michigan State Department of Education.
Equipped with a solid education and important life skills to help them reach their full potential, by Allah’s Will, such an educational process should expand boundaries by enriching the lives of students and enabling them to be more sensitive and effective. Thus, providing them with the tools for success in this life and the hereafter.
